Sight Fishing for Carp
The Colorado River West of Glenwood Springs holds perhaps the greatest population of river carp in the state. The only way to catch these golden monsters with flies is to sight fish for them.
Sight fishing for carp is not in itself too difficult, however, the rush of adrenalin and an accurate cast have been known to stifle even the most seasoned anglers. Carp on the fly present a most exciting challenge and from a boat on the Colorado River, anglers will get many shots.
This fun carp fishing video highlights a great day of sight fishing for big common carp. If you would like to book a Guided Carp Float contact Capt. Matt Thomas at:

Colorado River Carp Fishing
Guided Carp Fishing!!
Most avid fly fishermen have considered it before... Sight fishing for carp is perhaps the single greatest opportunity for a fisherman to catch Colorado's biggest fish with flies. Carp tend to get very large, relative to other river species, and on average range 6-8 lbs. wherever they are, given a number of exceptions for species like enormous Grass Carp and "heavy weight" Common Carp.
Colorado has a seemingly endless supply of carp fishing opportunities. Front Range carp can be found anywhere from small neighborhood ponds to popular city parks. Rivers like the South Platte hold countless willing fish for the carp fly fisherman. However, it is my understanding that the best carp fishing in the state of Colorado lies in the river of its name on the West Slope. The Colorado River is one of the mightiest rivers in the United States. The carp in these waters are big and hungry.
The most common way to fish for carp on the Colorado river is by drift boat. Anglers stand high on the bow of the boat for better visibility. When a carp is sighted, a well placed cast within a foot or two of the fish's mouth is all it takes.
In this carp fishing video Capt. Matt is fishing with a couple of friends. Over the day we caught many carp and even a couple of doubles!!
